How Did It All Begin?

My first Bichon Frisé, Louis, was really for our daughter, Danielle, who was desperate for a pet dog. I met a Bichon, fell in love, read up all I could about the breed and then knew that a Bichon was for us!  Louis grew up with my three children and became so much part of our family we could not imagine how life had been without him.  If anyone was sick he would stop playing for a few days and sit quietly watching over them.  When we laughed, he laughed too.

The following year my daughter made the KCJO Toy Stakes final at Crufts and took 2nd place. Louis loved the show ring and came back to Crufts 2002 just before his 12th Birthday, winning the Veteran Dog class. His wonderful and typical bichon character brought me into this show world with enthusiasm and commitment.

When my daughter’s school commitments prevented her from showing I took over. There was so much to learn, both grooming and handling, but the more I learnt, the more I wanted to know. Louis always showed his socks off so he made life very easy for me! He won many firsts at Championship Shows and the highlight of his career was taking a Rec CC at Windsor under Marjorie Ransom.

Louis was also the perfect family pet; friendly to everyone, sweet, kind, funny and a wonderful head warmer as he took his place on our pillow at the top of our bed!

Louis turned into a very handsome bichon and we were encouraged to show him. At our first few open shows he took Res Best in Show and then Best in Show. Little did we realise how good that was but one thing is for sure... ... we were hooked!!!

He lived a full, happy and active life but eventually succumbed to old age and shortly after his 15th birthday he slipped away peacefully and with dignity.  He left a huge void in our family home but also left us with so many wonderful memories.
